No Insurance?

Like me a lot of people with MS don't have insurance so what can you do what resources are available for us. I was diagnosed with MS when I was 16, when I was 18 I was kicked off my mothers insurance and had been without treatment since (5years). Until now I did not realized that resources are available. I had a relapse about 4 months ago and went into the emergency room for the steroids. The neurologist saw me, and when I told my story he told me to apply for free care which if I got approve for would cover my hospital and doctor visits. I got approve and within a month I had a neurologist appointment. The neurologist was very friendly and she scheduled an MRI she also sent out an application to a company named Biogen they are the manufactures of Avonex the application was for what they call the Access Program. If approved I would be entitled to receive the drug free of charge for 2 years. Needless to say I got approve and now I am on the drug. The process was very simple the neurologist did most of the paper work I just had to go in and sign it and send in my tax forms from last year. The company took care of the rest. I suggest that if you don't have or can't afford insurance I suggest talking to a neurologist and finding out all the resources that are available the Doctors know better than anyone how to get these resources. Please if you are seeing a Neurologist who is not helping you enough find a different until you get results.

What is Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease(National MS Society).
